Make a Dried Fall Arrangement in a Depression Glass Bowl

There are all kinds of fall decorations you can make, but for something different, you can make one that involves a variety of fall items combined together to make a singular decoration that has not only color but texture to it. This project requires using a pale colored Depression glass bowl in light green, pink, or peach, with a number of different items for the decoration. For this table centerpiece decoration, pine cones, pine nuts, walnuts in their shells, Indian corn removed from the cob, cinnamon sticks, raw pumpkin seeds, dried thistle, dried rose petals, dried lavender, and dried strawflowers will be used.

First wash out the glass bowl with a mild soap and let dry. Use clear plastic craft sheets to create the dividers in the bowl. If the bowl is 5″ deep, cut a piece of plastic that measures 4 1/2″ when standing on its side. Create as many sections in the bowl as you have items to be filled into these spaces. Start with a cross piece of plastic, making a slit in the center of the plastic length that will fit the diameter of the bowl, but not too tightly. At least eight sections will be needed for this project, with the last two items being arranged on top of the filled up spaces. With the remaining sections of plastic, fit them in as you fill each section with a different item. Only fill up to the top edge of the plastic divider.

In your first section, pour in the walnuts. In the next section, put in the rose petals. In the successive sections, these will be placed in order: pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, dried thistle, Indian corn, dried lavender, and dried strawflowers. The cinnamon sticks, pine cones, and any extra dried flowers will go on top of the arrangement. With the remaining 1/2 deep, fill the remaining sections with the pine cones spread on top, along with the cinnamon sticks laying across, and the flowers in between these last decorative items. Make sure all empty spaces are filled up. Place some cinnamon sticks by the center standing up, gently inserting them into each section. They will stand up with the support of the pine cones.

Once completed, you can place the dried flower, seed, and nut arrangement on your dining room table. It will not only look beautiful, but smell beautiful, too.
